Team of the Year 2019 - Goalkeeper

Welcome to the Unit Updates Team of the Year nominees for 2019. Lots to choose from and we will get the ball thrown in with our four goalkeeping candidates who all completed a fine season between the sticks.

Remember - I can only base selection on games we've covered!

In association with SNC Health & Fitness Kilrea.
Odhran Lynch - O'Donovan Rossa Magherafelt

Lynch began the year by helping the Rossa U21 side reach the Semi-Final of the Ulster Paddy McLarnon Tournament at Creggan and his success continued throughout the year. The wandering goalkeeper played a pivotal, if more traditional role with the Senior squad as they ended their 41-year wait to land the John McLaughlin Cup.

The former St Mary's Magherafelt 'keeper was particularly solid in the final, making a vital save in the first half from Ethan Doherty as Glen threatened.

Ryan Elliott - Cúchullain's Dunloy

Elliott's arrowed puck outs and shot stopping abilities were key in ensuring Dunloy regained the Antrim SHC title. He demonstrated his resilience when a costly error in the county final barely ruffled his feathers and the young goalkeeper launched an attack straight from the puck out.

He continued his fine form into Ulster, where an outstanding save from Brendan Rodgers proved the highlight of their final defeat to Slaughtneil and this has been a fine season for the man in the Cúchullain's goalmouth.

John Devlin - Eoghan Ruadh, Dungannon

Devlin played his part in a remarkable season for the hurlers of Eoghan Ruadh, Dungannon. After competing in Division 3 of the Antrim ACHL in 2018, the Tyrone men finished in the top half of Division 2 this season.

The 'Ruadh keeper came to the fore though in the Ulster IHC final against Naomh Éanna though, where he was able to showcase his superb shot-stopping ability, saving a number of excellently taken penalties from the Antrim champions.

John McNabb - Erin's Own Cargin

Cargin capped a fine season by retaining their Antrim SFC crown, seeing off a dogged Lámh Dhearg after a replay that went the distance in extra time. The champions owe a debt of gratitude to their goalkeeper. A safe custodian throughout the season, it was in the Antrim final where he found a telling intervention.

With Ben Rice bearing down on his goal in the replayed game as the Hannahstown men rode their own wave of momentum, McNabb produced a moment of pure instinct, shooting out a strong right hand to turn Rice's effort around the post.

Can I influence the decision?
